Install and Remove a Remote Control Ceiling Fan
Over the years, companies have been developing different ceiling fans that could fit any
individual's needs. Usually people prefer ceiling fans over box fans or rotating fans, since a ceiling fan can
distribute air around a room better. A remote control ceiling fan is developed to be able to make you comfortable
with just one click.
If you are looking to install a remote control ceiling fan of your own, then you will need a
step ladder, a flat head screwdriver, and orange wire nuts.
Installing a Remote Control Ceiling Fan
The first step is to make sure that the breaker of the main electrical panel that will supply
electricity to your fan's circuit is turned off.
The second step is to follow the instructions in the booklet in order to put your remote control
ceiling fan together. Use the two screws of the mounting hardware to install a mounting bracket to the junction
box.
The third step is to look at what kind of wiring is on the remote receiver and inside of the
junction box. The junction box wires are one black wire, one white wire, and one copper wire. These three wires
supply your ceiling fan with electricity. The remote receiver has one set of wires to supply power to the side of
the remote receiver and a set for the side of the ceiling fan.
The fourth step is to connect the remote receiver and the power supply wires together. Connect
the black wire from the power supply side of the receiver to the black wire from the junction box by twisting an
orange wire nut onto them. Twist another wire nut onto the white wires the same way.
The fifth step is to connect the copper wire to the green screw on the mounting breaker. Make
sure that the screw is tight.
The sixth step is to connect the remote receiver and the ceiling fan together. The wiring for
the ceiling fan has one black wire, one white wire, and a labeled light kit wire in it. Connect the two exposed
black wires of the ceiling fan and the side of the remote by twisting an orange wire nut onto each of the wires.
The next wires that you should connect together are the white wires on the fan and the receiver. Use an orange wire
nut on these wires as well. Attach the light kit lights together the same way.
The seventh step is to push all of the wires into the junction box and use the provided screw to
mount the ceiling fan to the bracket.
The eighth step is to turn the main breaker back on and test out your new remote control ceiling
fan.
Removing a Remote Control Ceiling Fan
You may have decided that a remote control ceiling fan is not the right device for you, so you
want to remove it, but do not know how.
Here are the steps on how to remove a remote control ceiling fan:
The first step is to set up your ladder to where the fan is in front of the ladder.
The second step is to turn off the breaker that is providing power to the fan. Only turning off
the fan or remote control will not work.
The third step is to remove the screws from the canopy, sliding it down the fan.
The fourth step is to test the wires to make sure that the circuit is completely off. Use a
touch-type voltage tester for this.
The fifth step is to find the transformer for the remote. It is the black above the mounting
bracket.
The sixth step is to disconnect the ground wire from the ground screw and black and white wires
as well
The seventh step is to lift and slide the ceiling fan out of the bracket.
The eighth step is to lower it down to someone who can set it on the ground.
The ninth step is to remove the bracket from the ceiling box.
The last step is to replace the connectors over each of the wires and stuff them back into the
box. Next, install another light fixture or cover the box with a blank plate.
